Use Two Factor Authentication (2FA)

Install security updates regularly:

Set strong login credentials and passwords
1. Never share your password with anyone.
2 Don’t re-use login credentials from financial accounts to other online accounts.
3 Don’t use easy to guess dates or words in your passwords.
4 Monitor your account frequently.

Suspicious email, and website.
If you suspect you’ve received a fraudulent email, consider the following:
1. Do I have a relationship with this company?
2. Would I expect this company to contact me this way?
3. Would I expect this company to use this tone or make this request?
4. Are there other red flags, such as incorrect dates or poor grammar?

Some other pointers about suspicious emails
1. Never automatically open links or attachments from an unexpected email.
2. If a suspicious link was accidentally opened, NEVER enter personal information or log-in credentials on the resulting page.
3. Do not email personal or financial data
4. Most email is not secure or encrypted and should not be trusted as a way to send personal or financial information
5. Consider reaching out to the company through a phone call if you are still unsure if an email is legitimate or suspicious. You can also type in the company’s proper website address in your browser or use a trusted email address to reach out. NEVER click on any email links from the email in question until you are certain it is safe.

Know how to ensure that you are on a secure site:
1. If you are about to enter sensitive information on a website, you must be able to identify whether or not that site is secure.
Look at your browser’s address bar.
2. If the address starts with “https://” that means the site has an added layer of security that creates an encrypted connection between the web server and your browser. This additional layer allows private information to be transmitted securely.
3. Note that web pages intended for browsing may not have this level of security, and that is ok. You should, however, look for “https” on all pages that require you to log in and/or enter any sort of sensitive information.
4. Similarly, a padlock icon after or before the URL address bar is another indication that a website is secure.
